Kiwanis StoryWalk® is an initiative from The Kiwanis Club of Tampa to encourage literacy and exercise for children. A StoryWalk® is a sign installation that displays a storybook along a walking path page-by-page. In order to read the story, families will walk along the path and read along.
The original Kiwanis StoryWalk® in Al Lopez was funded, installed, and continues to be maintained by The Kiwanis Club of Tampa. Thanks to a generous grant from the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, we have been able to expand this initiative into four new parks!
Kiwanis StoryWalk is located at the following parks:
Each park is maintained by a local Kiwanis Club, and Kiwanis volunteers change out the stories each month! Each book features fun adventures and diverse characters aimed at children under seven years of age. The Kiwanis StoryWalk® will be bilingual, with stories displayed in both English and Spanish.
Kiwanis strives to improve the world one child and one community at a time. Our enthusiastic volunteers pursue creative ways to serve the needs of our community. We take great pride in supporting our community financially and through hands on service. Internationally, we join together to tackle world issues. Locally, we each look at the unique challenges that children face in our own communities and find ways to step up and help.
The Kiwanis StoryWalk Initiative is organized by the Kiwanis Club of Tampa, but each park is maintained by a different Kiwanis Club in the Specific Community
The Kiwanis Club of Tampa has been helping children and seniors in the local community since 1919. The Kiwanis Club of Tampa builds ramps for the disabled, hosts immunization events, purchases holiday gifts for kids in need, provides scholarships, works with leadership clubs in schools at the middle school, high school and college level, and we oversee the StoryWalk Project of all of Hillsborough County and City of Tampa. Additionally, our foundation provides grants to local non-profit organizations.
